Huarache Sizing Guide: How Mexican Huaraches Should Fit

The most common question we get from customers in the United States is simple: what size huarache should I order? Huaraches fit differently than sneakers or dress shoes, so five minutes here will save you an exchange later.

Use the calculator below: tell us the size you already wear — in whichever system you know — and we'll tell you exactly which one to order.

Now you know your size. Here's what we make.

Every pair is cut, woven and finished by hand in Mexico. The leather is genuine and often in its natural vaqueta tone, so no two pairs are ever exactly alike.

US to Mexican size conversion

The Mexican size equals your foot length in centimeters. Note: the women's conversion is not the same as the men's.

Kids' sizes vary more between brands: always trust the foot length in centimeters, and leave half a centimeter of growing room.

Measure your foot in centimeters

A sheet of paper, a wall and a ruler. It takes a minute, and it's the most reliable method there is.

How to measure your foot Your heel touches the wall on a sheet of paper; mark the tip of your longest toe and measure that distance in centimeters. wall your mark paper foot length in cm = your MX size
1
Place a sheet of paper on the floor, flat against the wall.
2
Stand on the paper with your heel touching the wall.
3
Mark the tip of your longest toe with a pencil.
4
Measure in centimeters from the wall to the mark.
5
That measurement in cm is your Mexican size. If it falls between two, choose the smaller one.
Tip: measure in the afternoon (feet swell a little during the day), measure both feet and use the longer one. For kids it's the opposite: round up and leave half a centimeter of growing room.

Before you order: the four rules

MX

They arrive marked in Mexican sizes

Every pair is handmade in Mexico and arrives marked with its Mexican size, often abbreviated. An MX 28 may be marked simply as “8”. It's not a mistake — it's the right size.

½

No half sizes: size down, never up

We don't make half sizes. If you wear a US 9.5, order a US 9. And if you measure between two sizes — 27.5 cm, for example — order the smaller one. The leather gives about half a size in the first two weeks; a pair that's too big never fixes itself.

♀

The women's conversion is different

In men's, MX 27 is US 9. In women's, MX 27 is US 10. If you're ordering women's, use the Women tab in the chart above — ordering with the men's conversion leaves you a full size too big.

◇

How it should feel on day one

Snug, but not painful. Your toes should sit close to the front edge without hanging over, and the woven straps should hold your midfoot firmly. If a pair feels roomy and comfortable on day one, it will feel sloppy in a month.

Wide feet, narrow feet

Huaraches naturally run wide, which makes them one of the most comfortable options for wide feet. If your feet are narrow, the woven styles with more coverage — closed-toe and lace-up models — will hold better than minimal open styles. If your feet are very wide or you have a high instep, message us before ordering with your measurement and we'll guide you.
