The most common question we get from customers in the United States is simple: what size huarache should I order? Huaraches fit differently than sneakers or dress shoes, so five minutes of reading here will save you an exchange later.
How a huarache should fit
A new huarache should feel snug but not painful. Genuine leather stretches and molds to your foot during the first one to two weeks of wear — that's the point of the material. If a pair feels loose on day one, it will feel sloppy in a month. Your toes should sit close to the front edge without hanging over, and the woven straps should hold your midfoot firmly.
US to Mexican size conversion
Our huaraches are marked in Mexican sizes, but you can order using your normal US size — we handle the conversion. For reference (men's):
- US 7 = MX 25 (25 cm)
- US 8 = MX 26 (26 cm)
- US 9 = MX 27 (27 cm)
- US 10 = MX 28 (28 cm)
- US 11 = MX 29 (29 cm)
- US 12 = MX 30 (30 cm)
- US 13 = MX 31 (31 cm)
- US 14 = MX 32 (32 cm)
The Mexican size equals your foot length in centimeters — which brings us to the most reliable method of all.
Measure your foot in centimeters
Stand on a sheet of paper, mark your heel and longest toe, and measure the distance in centimeters. That number is your Mexican size. If you measure 27.5 cm, round down to 27 for a snug fit that will stretch, or up to 28 if you prefer a relaxed fit or have a high instep.
What if I wear a half size?
Huaraches come in whole sizes only. If you wear a half size, order the next whole size down — for example, a US 9.5 should order a US 9. The leather runs wide and will give; ordering up usually results in a huarache that never locks onto your foot.
Wide feet, narrow feet
Huaraches naturally run wide, which makes them one of the most comfortable options for wide feet. If your feet are narrow, the woven styles with more coverage — closed-toe and lace-up models in our men's collection — will hold better than minimal open styles.
Kids' sizes
For children's huaraches, measure the foot in centimeters and add half a centimeter of growing room. Kids' leather breaks in faster because the shoes are lighter.
